Kim McDiarmid is a 57 years old, Canadian entrepreneur/ model. She is happily married to Raymond, her husband of 30
years. Kim has been in the modeling and fashion industry for over 40 years beginning as a model at the age of 13.
She moved to Paris from a small town in Canada when she was only 17 old. After being offered a plane ticket from a
Paris agency. She jumped at the chance, took her $200 in savings, and headed for Paris.
From there she worked all over Europe and North America for the next 10 years with her base being
mostly in Paris. She fell in love with this gorgeous city and its fabulous people. It remains her favorite in the world.
After moving back to Canada at 27 she purchased a model agency and worked as a mentor and agent
for the next 15 years placing models all over the world. Together with her business partner, they grew
the business to be one of the top boutique agencies in the country. Even 10 years after selling the
business, she remains good friends with many of the talented people she had the pleasure of representing.
At the age of 52 she went back to modeling. As a silver model. Together with her daughter Maddie, she founded ‘Runway Unlimited’. At Runway Unlimited they help aspiring models build careers in fashion and beauty
through their Model Masterclass program.
QUESTIONS
1. How do you feel about being fifty plus?
Being 50 plus is simply another chapter in this beautiful book of life. I love to inspire
women to be vital and ever-evolving in their lives. I try to focus on the future and all the
things I have yet to accomplish and spend very little time focused on the past.
I like to say “it’s ok to look back, just don’t stare”.
2. At which age did you enjoy life the most? Would you like to go back?
I have amazing memories from every age. Flying to Paris for the first time in my teens was
a highlight, buying my business in my 20’s was so scary and fun, my 30’s were filled with
motherhood which grew my heart 1000%. My 40’s brought success in our business and a
bit more time to explore other areas of interest like my love of horses.
I have had incredible growth in my 50’s, I was able to compete at the Canadian nationals
as an equestrian hunter/jumper as well and relaunching a modeling career with a desire
to inspire women to feel good in their skin at any age and embrace age as a gift.
I try to focus forward but the only thing I would go back for is to hug my lost loved ones
one more time.
3. From which experience did you learn, what made you stronger?
I had a very unhappy childhood and spent most of my time on my own. Being alone
allowed me to dream of the beautiful places I wanted to visit and how life could be full and
joyful. This vision is what drove me forward to work hard towards my goals and has stayed
with me my entire life. I am always dreaming of new goals and challenges and wonderful
ways I can improve my life and help others around me.
4. What changes have you experienced after your 50th?
My 50th marked a time of change as I was deciding to come back to the fashion industry
with a different purpose this time. I kept looking for women in advertising who were over
50 and still had style and I wasn’t really inspired.
I wanted to present an alternative for women who love fashion, are incredibly relevant and
yet want to age naturally and with grace. We are seeing this messaging more and more
now with incredible platforms like this which is fantastic to see!
5. What made you stronger in life?
Taking chances and bold steps even when I was scared. I have almost always taken
opportunities that have come my way even though I was underprepared.
It has forced me to step up each time and grow into the experience.
6. What is your favorite quote?
